For the past few years, with funding from the Governors Workforce Board Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Job Development Fund, Tech Collective has worked with the Rhode Island IT industry to develop, design, and operate an IT Boot Camp for entry-level workers. A blend of critical workforce skills, the boot camp offers participants hands-on technical education as well as critical thinking, business, and job-readiness skills. At the end of the program, participants have the opportunity to utilize their skills in a real-world setting via an experiential learning/internship position with local technology companies. Netsense Works with Tech Collective's GRRL Tech In an effort to increase girls' awareness of STEM orientated careers, Tech Collective started GRRL Tech; an interactive day of technology aimed towards interesting girls in opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. GRRL Tech is now in its 12th year and has continued to grow bigger and bigger. This interactive technology expo is not only a fun day for girls across the state to learn more about STEM opportunities, but the day is finished off by awarding 4 girls a four year $4000 scholarship to University of Rhode Island. Always a supporter of Tech Collective, Netsense was asked to participate and conduct a hands-on workshop for the girls. Meghan Schweizer, Internet Marketing Consultant, rose to the challenge with her "Let's Get Social" workshop geared towards introducing the high schoolers into the world of internet marketing careers, with an emphasis on social media management from a business point of view. In the workshop, the girls explored how social media has changed the customer journey to purchase. The day was a success all around, and Netsense was excited to be invited to participate. |
